Why is Wine so weak?

I have a netbook Asus 1001 that only runs Ubuntu 1204, however I have to use some Windows based programmes and so I use Wine. However, there artwo a problems 1. when I use Wine to open two different Windows programmes on two different desktops. And usually the system crashes and I have to reboot.
Is there anyway that Wine could be strengthened to run multiple Windows programmes on different desktops?
2. Please could someone improve Evince pdf reader to include, Notes, comments, etc etc. Please look at Foxit Reader for an example of how to improve Evince.

Have you tried the the Adobe Acrobat reader? It may give what you need.

Have you added the Wine PPA to try the later release of Wine than the one in the Ubuntu repos

It most likely is not Wine as much as it is limited memory available to run wine. And as suggested above I would install Adobe Reader from Adobe's website. It will add that repository automatically so that you get updates as they are released from Adobe.

Apart from agreeing with Steve Sauls, I'd like to add that Evince does show comments. You can find them in the side pane (available from the View menu or by pressing F9). Just click the header that says "Thumbnails" and select "Annotations" instead.
