No sound in Wine 1.4 / Precise

Asked by Night Eagle

Since upgrading to Precise and Wine 1.4, I no longer have any sound in Wine.

In Winecfg, (System Default) is hte only option availallble.

When I "Test Sound" the following is output on my console:

err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from multi-threaded to apartment threaded
err:mmdevapi:DllGetClassObject Driver initialization failed
err:ole:apartment_getclassobject DllGetClassObject returned error 0x80004005
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {bcde0395-e52f-467c-8e3d-c4579291692e} could be created for context 0x1

Seems like I'm missing audio drivers or something like that.

I'm on AMD64 architecture, and the following wine packages installed:

ii wine 1.4-0ubuntu4
ii wine-gecko1.4 1.4.0-0ubuntu2
ii wine-gecko1.4:i386 1.4.0-0ubuntu2
ii wine1.4 1.4-0ubuntu4
ii wine1.4-amd64 1.4-0ubuntu4
ii wine1.4-common 1.4-0ubuntu4
ii wine1.4-i386:i386 1.4-0ubuntu4

OK, I was able to solve by installing winetricks and then command:

winetricks sound=alsa

That got me a sound driver in winecfg and sound out my speakers.

Seems like this should be part of configuration during install of wine.

You need to get the dependencies
