"Wine" allows usage of windows applications

Asked by Sheikh Faizan-Ul-Haque

Wine allows usage of windows applications in ubuntu as it acts as a emulator. What i wanted to ask was the definition of that said application. For example can i ask use the windows version of skype on ubuntu after ive installed skype or am i only confined to the linux version? And if software programs arent applications then what are? Examples please.

the wine allows you to run .exe files on linux, so technically you should be able to download the windows version of skype and run it on linux. How well it works will take some experimentation.

It allows some to run, some work and some don't. Check the appdb for compatibility. Wine isn't an emulator (Which is what the acronym stands for).

Software programs are applications, it's one and the same thing.

Can you help with this problem?
