Are the newer versions of any Windows Programs compatible with wine?

Asked by Lorenzo Woodley

I Use alot of windows apps and noticed that they slow me down when running them on my current machine i installed Linux hoping I would be able to run my app via the windows compatibility layer in wine...I have tried several programs so fare to no avail iTunes no QuickTime no Art rage no but really those were just test.....I really want to run my other windows programs such as the Adobe creative suit and a few C.A.D programs from Autodesk and I wanted to know would wine even run these before I delete the partition and start to install them

Autocad definitely not. If you really want to run Ubuntu but don't want the inconvenience of dual booting then VirtualBox from Oracle might be a solution:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html

Of course you will need a reasonably powerful machine with enough RAM, but I've found that XP runs really well in VBox even on a Celeron machine.

Virtual Box even has a seamless mode where the Windows apps appear to be running Windowed on the Ubuntu Desktop.

You'll need to get and install the extension pack into VBOX, and install the Guest Additions into Windows.
