graphics and installation also playing of fifa 08 game

i am a new user of Ubuntu, help me on how to adjust the screen resolutions (VGA) and also to play heavy games like FIFA 08, need for speed, San Andreas, editing programs like pinnacle 9.4 on my Ubuntu 9.10,

(also dreaming of having windows running like an application inside Ubuntu where by i can be able to host the above inside it and be able to execute them without a problem)

You can run Windows inside a virtual machine, like VirtualBox and VmWare, but they don't have good 3D graphic. Except 3D games, it works perfectly.
For screen resolution, System->Preferences->Screen for classical window manager and for Unity, search if you have an icon screen (I have, but don't remember if I added), else search icon Applications, then System->Preferences->Screen
