I cannot figure out how to open/install Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500GB hard drive.

Asked by Bridgett Bleemel

I'm new to Ubuntu and don't know what to do when I want to run set up for new things. I have a new external hd that I want to move my music to which I cannot run. I get this error: The file '/media/FreeAgent GoFlex Drive/Setup.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit. I went to properties; permissions and tried to check the box marked Execute but it wouldn't allow me. The same thing happened when I tried to install a new game. How am I supposed to introduce new things to my pc? Is this going to happen with EVERYTHING?

The app is a Windows app. Ubuntu is not Windows, it's a distribution of Linux. Reboot and logon with the device detached and run:

lsb_release -a; lsusb; echo

Then connect the device, wait 10 seconds and run:

dmesg | tail -n 10; lsusb

Copy all the output and paste here as an update

Thanks

are you using the seagate as a backup drive or just as an external drive?

i'm assuming you're trying to installed the backup software. linux is a completely different operating system than windoze and windoze programs won't run without some additional software added.

if you're just using it as an external drive, plug it in and it should show up on the places menu.

if you let us know what you're doing with the drive then we can give you further instructions on how to make it work.

Can you help with this problem?
