Yes, not all games are compatible. Try installing Wine, it will allow you to play most windows games on Ubuntu. You can search for it in the software center.

You can get specific information on the compatibility of individual games (and other Windows applications) with Wine at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&sTitle=Browse%20Applications&sOrderBy=appName&bAscending=true.

     My older games won't play in Windows now that I have a 64 bit computer - Windows was never much for supporting older programs. I now run Windows through VirtualBox (under Linux) and games all run just fine.

@Larry Jordan
Your games must be *really* old if you can run them in VirtualBox, since VirtualBox's graphics acceleration is very weak. With that said, I am glad you have a solution that works well for you.

@Joshua Michael Getzinger
If your games are really old (e.g. Starcraft) and you have a copy of Windows available for installing on a virtual machine, then you might be able to run your games in VirtualBox as well (or with some other virtualization application, such as VMware Player/Workstation). However, older games tend to also be reasonably easy to get working with Wine.
