Most software can be installed in Applications > Ubuntu Software Center. This automatically downloads and installs software, and maintains it (i.e. it is updated along with the rest of your system).

Are you asking how to install a Windows program from an installation CD? What software are you trying to install?

Games are available in the repos. If it is a windows game then you may get success installing playonlinux and wine. You should check the appdb to see if the game will work:

Hi my name is John Papineau and I am the technician for Ubuntu Kootenay Group

You can also talk to me on lauchpad I have a acount there

to play game on ubuntu you have to navigate to your Ubuntu software center using your ubuntu menu . first , click on applications on the ubuntu menus at the top of your desktop. There you will see a icon that is called (Ubuntu software center ) click on it . This will open your Ubuntu software center . when the ubuntu software center open you will see deferente icon each icon is deferente type on program that you can get for ubuntu. Look for the icon that say games and click on it .There you will be presented with deferent type of games. click on the category of games you would like to play for example (simulation icon) There you will find games of this category. for example if you wanted to play gl-177 game you would click on it . this will brig a menu that show the name of the game , you can also click the more info icon if you want more detail about the games. and finally at your right you will see a icon that say (install) or (remove) if the icon say install then you can install the game if it say remove then the game is already installed. it is a good idea to check game recoirement before installing a game . you can find this by gowing to lauchpad and email me or go to Ubuntu page or to my web page at ubuntu kootenay Group https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CanadianTeam/Kootenay there you will find my email and also a help link that has general info on ubuntu and also games that have been tested in work well in ubuntu. if you do not find what you are looking for or what info on more place you can get game email me

I hope that this will help you

If companys supported Linux more, it would. Sadly they don't.
