failure in running exe files

i hv been having problems with running exe files. i am failing to set "allow executing a file as a program" in properties>permission..
why is this happening? even after clicking on the check -box he element is not executed as a program. tell me hoe i can repair this.

If you run in terminal:

chmod +x /path/to/filename.exe

It will mark iot executable, if it is on a CD you may get luck with:

wine /path/to/filename.exe

To make it work.

You can also install playonlinux which may help
