Cannot load game Stalker clear sky

Asked by Max Hay

Have installed Wine onto my system and have installed the game Stalker Clear Sky successfully by mounting an ISO image to a virtual drive as my disk drive doesn't open now that I have installed Ubuntu 10.10.

After the game was installed I clicked to open the game to begin playing and a box pops up saying that I have insufficient Privileges and must be administrator to load this game for the first time. I have played this game on my computer previously with a different operating system. Please help, I have had several problems with Ubuntu since installing and I am losing faith in this system quickly.

From looking at AppDB (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14790) and PlayOnLinux's install script (http://www.playonlinux.com/repository/?script=401) you should be able to run the game by opening a terminal, navigating to the game's directory and start it directly, like so:

cd /path/to/Stalker
wine bin/xrEngine.exe

If this doesn't work, either check the AppDB page (there are several suggestions for how to install and run it there) or try PlayOnLinux.

The command below

cd /path/to/Stalker
wine bin/xrEngine.exe

Gave this reading -

wine: cannot find 'bin/xrEngine.exe'

I have been looking Wine HQ AppDB but don't have a clue how to follow there instructions it all sounds double dutch to me.

Is there any other way. Just to re-cap, I have already installed Stalker via mounting an ISO image onto virtual drive. Installed game successfully but just can't run program as "Insufficiant Privileges" message appears stating I need Administrator privileges to run this program for the first time. I am the administrator and have been the sole owner of the computer from new (4yrs ago).

I should probably have mentioned it, but in the commands before, you should replace "/path/to/Stalker" with the actual path to where you have Stalker installed.

If you're still having problems, PlayOnLinux should support Stalker: Clear Sky - it's available here: http://www.playonlinux.com .

Can you help with this problem?
