Could try the 1.3 version of wine (if you don't already have it)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa; sudo apt-get --purge remove wine*; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install wine1.3

May help

I don't play any games so that's all I can think of. I suggest you also post on the wine forums too as it's more specific to your issue.

Maybe others can contribute

Some friend is using the playonlinux wine frontend which is doing some clever configurations before the game is installed. WoW is also listed in playonlinux. Try with that and see what happens.

Can you help with this problem?
