You can't simply run windows applications natively.

You can however use an "emulator" program like wine. You would need to install this from the software repositories (software centre).

Once you have this program installed, you can navigate to your old programs and try them by clicking on the exe.

Alternately, depending upon your needs, you may want to use an equivalent program for ubuntu. These can also be installed using the software centre.

For a photoshop replacement program, "gimp" may suit your needs. To replace illustrator, "inskcape" may be useful. These will certainly run faster than their emulated equivalents.

The following might help you get started:

New to Ubuntu:
- read the Ubuntu Manual, it's very informative: http://ubuntu-manual.org/
Click on the "download Button" to download the latest PDF version.
- The Ubuntu pocket guide: http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/
- The online help https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/index.html

Can you help with this problem?
