Will my writing software work on ubuntu?

You have software such as Wine that make you run windows software, but Wine said that not all software works, which software don't work on Wine? And why? Will I be able to download aim and oovoo, and my writign software such as dramatica pro, newnovelist etc?

Wine is an abstraction layer for microsoft's proprietary DirectX as well as other things. DirectX definitions are not published and the wine guys work bloody hard to research how apps use directx and how the calls can be made into linux calls.If directx was open then this would be massively easier but its not and (best guess) microsoft will NOT work with wine.
Due to this fact, not all apps work. Some work really well, some won't even install.
You can check the wine appdb for compatibility:
