Run MS office 2007 using wine under 10.10

Asked by Tong Sun

Hi,

Need a solid example that MS office 2007 can be run using wine under 10.10, preferable for the x64 architecture, which is more problematic than the 32bit one.

Need exact version# (and url) of the wine, and steps to make things work.

Thanks

yes it does!
I have it running under 10.04 (and installed) ... all wine updates and it's still running
... yesterday upgraded to 10.10 and it's still working :)

You'll find a few tips at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4992
Some of the programs do not work very well, others such as Word are excellent.

Thanks for the answer, but what exact version# (and url) of the wine did you use?

Which MS office 2007 version did you use, SP2?

Were you able to install directly in 10.10, not just upgrading?

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4992 gives ways to run it. 2002 and 2000 run much better. What's wrong with openoffice??

If you want to pay for software then fine. I prefer to use open alternatives, the benefits listed arequite trivial and considering its $200 I'd rather pass.

Answering the question myself,

Yes, freshly install under Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick.

JFTR,

Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise edition with SP2 Integrated didn't work:

wine setup.exe &
 [ . . . ]
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
err:process:create_process starting 64-bit process L"Z:\\mnt\\iso1\\setup.exe" not supported in 32-bit wineprefix
wine: Bad EXE format for Z:\mnt\iso1\setup.exe

So I choose an older one -- it is the (original) Microsoft Office Suite 2007 Enterprise Edition, and it works just fine.
