wine, cashbook, visual basic module syntax error

Asked by JimL

I have the similar problem as posted before, after using cashbook complete by acclaim software for a number of years on various Ubuntu versions, with Wine it's stopped working (for no apparent reason, and just as the GST return is due!!) now on Ubuntu 10.04.

I have tried in the past to ask Acclaim to make linux version with no progress.

Re-installed Wine V1.2, and tried the latest Cashbook version 5.03a. After a number of errors finally got the program loaded after removing original .wine as suggested by MikeP above. Then stumped by same error message
THERE WAS AN ERROR COMPILING THIS FUNCTION.VISUAL BASIC MODULE CONTAINS A SYNTAX ERROR.CHECK THE CODE AND THEN RECOMPILE IT.

Wine appears to be installed OK and stable, so wondering if it is just this new version of cashbook that's the problem. Unfortunately need it as GST rates just changed here.

Any more ideas?...

Not all apps run in wine, check the appdb for compatibility

It's not listed on appdb, However there are discussions on previous versions working, and I have had it working for years. But both Ubuntu and Cashbook have upgraded versions so I was hoping someone else had got the latest version working.

Update. I seem to have got it running. I reloaded winetricks and dcom98. program loaded but then encountered an error with MSaccess.exe. I changed the default in wine to windows 98 and bingo. Just have a few bugs with help files and backing up, but runs the reports fine.
