Word Viewer

Asked by marcus aurelius

Is there a MS Word viewer for Linux? I'm writing documents in OpenOffice writer, however, some things don't show up correctly when opened in Word. I'd like to be able to view the writer documents before sending them out.

Hi,

If you need to check out what a person using MS Word will really see when he receives a .doc document produced and exported from OpenOffice.org, you may install the (free as in free beer) Microsoft Word Viewer that you can download from the Microsoft web site for free.

To install it in Ubuntu, you'll need to install wine first, then install the word viewer from microsoft (like in Windows by double-clicking on it).

To install wine, just open Applications > Software Center then enter the keyword wine in the search field and follow instructions afterwards.

Hope that helps.

Note that in some cases double clicking will not produce the correct action (opening the program) - if this is the case, right click on it and select Open with->Wine Windows Program Loader.

Can you help with this problem?
