Does Ubuntu supports windows framework 2.0 softwares

Asked by Vikasitha Anishiyas

I am so new to ubuntu OS though I have used it once. We develop software for deaf and blind school children using microsoft visual studio 2005. We have a future plane to give individual child a PC with cost effective manner. But if we use windows xp, vista or windows 7 that will exceed our budget. therefore we are looking forward to go ahead with open source. We need to know whether ubuntu supports windows framework 2.0 software so we could install our software in ubuntu OS.

You have to try running your program using Wine.

If by Windows Framework 2.0 you mean .NET 2.0, then Linux has a wonderful open source/free implementation of it called Mono (http://www.mono-project.com/).

Try searching for it in the software installer. Also consider taking a look at the IDE MonoDevelop, I hear it's quite good.

Can you help with this problem?
