Adobe CS3 wine install

Asked by jmsroa88

Hi,
this nOOb needs help with running Adobe CS3 - especially Dreamweaver CS3 on Lucid Lynx 10.04LTS please. I am sure that you folks out there must find this a pretty lame request - but all i can do is apologise for the inconvenience in seeking assistance. I updated Wine via the following methods:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine

and i believe everything is correct
then went to my windows partition running CS3,
Programs/AdobeFolderMCCS3/AdobeDreamweaverCS3/Dreamweaver.exe - right click Open with Wine Windows Program Loader and nothing happened.
So obviously I am definately doing something wrong here folks, so i tried and failed and now need assistance from you genius folks and please, please - in simple, layman's instructions cause am not a whiz.
Appreciate the assistance and my thanks in advance, have a great weekend folks.
Cheers
James R

Can you run "wine" from command line and report error messages.

Also try running it from command line:

cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files

you can thn cd through the other folders til you get to the location you installed it to then run:

wine ./Dreamweaver.exe

What is output?

Incidentally, it's not rated for Lucid but gets a garbage rating in Karmic:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7694

But weirdly gets a Platinum rating in Intrepid (no longer supported). It also appears to need a lot of extra steps (scroll down and there is a how to)

Why not use GIMP, its a native app and will run much cleaner.

Just for clarification, GIMP is a graphics program, Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG website editor.

You might want to try KompoZer (http://www.kompozer.net/). It's not quite as polished as Dreamweaver, but it gets the job done.

Thanks guyz,
really helpful and will check out the suggestions. Downloading KompoZer now and will also do the same fer Bluefish. Could not run Adobe Dreamweaver at all though, but doesn't matter - if KompoZer/Bluefish can do what is needed it will be great. Do have a further question though - what about flash? Will any of the above progs handle it as well i.e. adobe flash CS3?
Again my thanks for the patience and help rendered to the nOOb.

Hi folks,
Thanks fer all the replies/suggestions. After much tries I finally decided that the best way to go is via virtual(xp guest) kinda of the best of both worlds I guez. At least for now - cause I've still got work to do in Flash/Web Design and relying on Adobe CS. Hopefully in the near future a Adobe CS for Linux(or at leasst the ability to run stable thru wine) comes along. Still I extend my thanks to all of you folks fer the interest/time spent helping out. It sure is appreciated immensely.
Thanks and Cheers

Theres Cedega or CrossOver Office which although not free may run your apps. They also have appdb like pages describing what works well etc. Cheaper than a windows license any day.
