need to load old win program metacreations 'Painter 5' into ubuntu desktop using wine, help please

Asked by Linden Taylor

I would love to use ubuntu rather than xp but I need to take this old program with me. It's called Metacreations 'Painter 5' Fractal design.
I have loaded Ubuntu as dual boot with xp as well as wine. All OK. Now I put my cherished copy of Painter in to load, wine picks it up but refuses it as a non-executable. I suppose it sees it as a bug or something. Is there anything I can can do to get around this? I can't operate without this program, Help Please

Can you please type wine --version in a terminal and let us know the result here.

Are you trying to run it from a CD?

Change permissions in your program to execute as program. Right click your program / select properties / select permissions / check allow executing file as program.
