Wireless interface wlp6s0 monitor issue

Asked by Mike Griffith

Not sure if bug or a setting. I'm running Lubuntu 21.04 and watchdog 5.16-1. I first was testing with my eth interface enp7s0 using the interface monitor and while monitoring via journalctl -u watchdog -f and verbose=1 and logtick=1 in /etc/watchdog.conf was able to successfully setup the monitor. The main "device enp7s0 did not receive anything since last check" along with verbose info would populate once i removed network cable, then when connected back you would just see the verbose data without the main "did not receive" msg. My plan was to use it for the wifi interface and changed watchdog over to it, wlp6s0, also removing the verbose and logtick as tests worked as planned. To my surprise the journalctl -u watchdog -f started populating with "device wlp6s0 did not receive anything since last check". So started a ping to that device, msg still showing in log. Went back and added the verbose and logtick entries to conf file, restarted watchdog and journalctl and also to my surprise only was seeing the verbose data of "device wlp6s0 received XXXXX bytes" incrementing like i also saw when testing the eth interface. So figured it was just the gremlins and set the conf file back to no verbose or logtick, restarted everything and again to my surprise "device wlp6s0 did not receive anything since last check" every second showing up again. Went back to eth settings to just make sure the log was acting right and msg would stop when plugged in and start when unplugged. The pings going to the testing device while settings for wlp6s0 had no effect on the log msg. I have verified that watchdog still runs my repair binary (restarts NetworkManager service) and after manually stopping the service and running ping to the testing device watchdog does bring the interface back up so it appears to just be either a setting I'm missing or something going on with how watchdog is logging this scenario.

Hopefully I didn't butcher this, but wondering if you could point me in right direction.
Thanks
