Tried to snc my mobile Nokia E70 but it is not recognized by Ubuntu Heron although have downloaded Wammu to applicatins

Asked by ashok

Tried to get my Nokia E70 mobile phone to be recognized with Heron and installed Wammu as had beeen recommended. But the phone does not show up in Places and there is no icon showing a new device. I would like to sync my calender, contact date etc with evolution.

Any advice would be appreciated, especially if anything I have not done corrrectly with Wammu installation. I see in applications that there are 2 icons: Wammu Log and Wammu Read.

Thank in advance,

Ashok

Hmm, I have no personal experience, but because I use Nokia phones at work this sounded interesting.

http://wammu.eu says:

> Symbian phones up to Symbian 9.0 are supported through gnapplet

http://www.s60.com/life/s60phones/displayTechnicalSpecification.do?deviceId=567 says about E70:

> Software platform: S60 3rd Edition based on Symbian OS v9.1

I haven't checked that gnapplet, but if the information above is correct and up-to-date, it doesn't work.

Ok, gnapplet information is here:

http://wiki.gnokii.org/index.php/Gnapplet_driver

And it explicitly mentions E70 and all newer S60 phones to be unsupported.

I believe (i.e I don't know for sure) that Nokia / S60 uses SyncML for synchronization nowadays.

When searching for "evolution SyncML" on google

- the first hit was http://www.go-evolution.org/SyncML

and said "it would be nice..." Did sound promising

- the second hit was http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=355688
Maybe that discussion helps. E61 is pretty much the same software as E70.

Can you help with this problem?
