ubuntu: VNC unable to enter '(' and ')' chars

Asked by P

Hi,

I am running VNC server on a ubuntu 11.04 release. When I try to VNC to the ubuntu machine from a win 7 PC, I am able to vnc to the machine. But for some reason I am not able to enter '(' or ')' characters. I am able to enter '(' and ')' directly on the ubuntu machine.

Thanks,

PK

What are you connecting to the remote system to achieve?
Are there any bugs reported?

I need to be able to login to the ubuntu machine to an existing session. If I remote desktop to the machine a new session is started.

I tried using the mstsc /console command, but it creates a new session.

I am not aware of any bugs reported for this issue.

But why do you need the session. What do you do once you connect? There may be a sleeker option to do the same thing than VNC....

I suggest you report a bug

I am running simulations on the ubuntu machine, these take a long time. To check up on the status, I need the ability to log in to the session running the simulation. The simulation has GUI interfaces, so I need to be able to "look" at the screen.

Makes sense, millions of people automatically reach for VNC when its not needed, so I always ask :)

I suggest you try a different app to connect to the server with, if it is the same in all apps, then report a bug with the vnc server you are using

Can you help with this problem?
