Ubuntu 12.04 not launching VMPlayer

Asked by Vijay

Hi,

I recently upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10. After upgrade, I couldn't launch VMPlayer 4 or,4.0.1 or 4.0.2 any version. It was working fine in 11.10.

I saw below error /tmp/vmware-root directory: Can you please advise me on this issue whether Kernal 3.2 not supporting VMPlayer? Will VMware release new version to resolve this issue?

Hi

ran into what looks like to be a similar problem with vmplayer 4.0.2 build-591240.
The error in the log was:
2012-04-30T10:30:56.326+01:00| vthread-3| I120: Failed to compile module vmnet!

After some digging I've found this patch which solved the problem for me: http://weltall.heliohost.org/wordpress/2012/01/26/vmware-workstation-8-0-2-player-4-0-2-fix-for-linux-kernel-3-2-and-3-3/

As always, back up and use it at your own risk.

Best regards
