uninstall ubuntu updates and install XP/Linux dual boot

Asked by galeb abu-ali

I'm hosting Lucid 10.04 LTS, from an ISO file, on an Widnows XP OS using VMware player. I'm new to this so my questions may not make sense.

1. If I uninstall VMware and delete the ISO file, does that also get rid of the Ubuntu updates I've installed so far, and if not where are they, how do I get rid of them?

2. I want to install the Linux Red Hat Enterprise WS v5.3 OS as a dual boot so that I have a XP/Linux option at start up. My desktop is fairly powerful and can be formatted as a 64 bit system.

thanks much,

galeb

If you are using VMWare then the OS is only installed virtually so if you remove it as well as the virtual machines then Ubuntu will be gone. The updates are stored in /var/cache/apt/archives in the virtual machine so will also go.

You can install any linux you wish. If you want to dual boot you will need some unpartitioned space to install to. You can make this using the Ubuntu CD, the RedHat CD may have this functionality too. If you must use redhat I'd recommend Fedora as it is community driven :)
