VLC not listed in Repository, and can't install from downloaded package

Asked by OmniUni

Binary package hint: vlc

This is a fresh install of Karmic. I am running the KDE desktop, and all repositories and branches are enabled (Universe, Multiverse, etc.) After several updates, VLC is still not listed, nor most of its plug-ins. I have tried using apt-get, adept, and synaptic, and none can find a package "vlc". I downloaded the Karmic release package, and tried to install it, and it complains of unmet dependencies, "vlc-nox" which it supposedly replaces. For now, I can not install VLC.

If you open a terminal and do apt-get update , then apt-get install -f first , does anything happen? any errors? Please paste them.

Also paste your sources.list

Here is my sources.list.

It is mostly unmodified, except for Medibuntu, which I have never known to have any problems before, and does not contain VLC anyway, just some supplemental and non-conflicting media packages.

Just in case, I did enable the Ubuntu partners repository etc, but all that was just done by checking the boxes in the sources manager.
