Video flickers when I try to watch a movie using VLC media

Hello

I actually have two problems. Firstly, when I try to watch a movie using either VLC or Movie player, the picture flickers.
Secondly, when I listen to music, the sound is very low even with volume at full.

CAn someone give me some advice?

I used to use VLC alot. I had the same problem. You could try d/loading a new updated version. But more than likely it is in your settings in VLC. Or possibly in your windows settings in your graphics/resolution(in display) What version of windows are you using? If its an old one, that can be a problem. Also if your monitor is a v.g.a that will do it. It needs to be a -> s.v.g.a. I hope this helps you-)

The common solution seems to be to disable compiz special effects (desktop effects) when playing video's. But see the URL links for alternative workaround solutions.
