DVD won't play both movie player and VLC

I got sidetracked and sent this as 'comment' on another Q. whilst trying to find previously posted solution.

FSJ Celsius, Intel core2 CPU 6400 2x2.13GHz, 2.9GB RAM

Ubuntu 12.04
libdvdread4 installed.

movie player. "could not read DVD- encrypted- decryption library not installed.

VLC with NO DISC MENUS: DVD could not be read-1/4 blocks@0x01

The PC plays same DVDs with VLC running Win XP- so DVD ROM not problem. No extra decryption needed for VLC on XP:

Any ideas??

Have you installed libdvdcss?
