Got ubuntu 12.04, nvidia driver, now VLC doesn't work right. It runs, but there is no window appearing. Also VLC no longer shows in the Dash Home.

Asked by Matt Larson

In ubuntu 12.04, VLC no longer works correctly. It runs, but no window appears after running VLC.

VLC is also missing from the Dash Home.

Note, I have already deleted ~/.config/vlc and found this to be unrelated to the current problem. It is odd that vlc doesn't show up in the dash menu, seems like a package or file for doing the display is missing. Are there any steps that I can do to troubleshoot why there is no display?

try closing VLC and run:

mv ~/.config/vlc ~/.config/vlc_old

Then rerun the app
