Screen suspending after 10 minutes

Asked by Iain Lane

Hi,

Is there any way to stop the screen from suspending while videos are playing in VLC? This even happens despite me having:

* Upped the timeout to 40 minutes in "Screensaver"
* Disabled "activate screensaver when the computer is idle", again in "Screensaver"
* Changed "put computer to sleep" and "put display to sleep" to never in "Power Management"

Why doesn't VLC (and other media players? I don't know; not tried them) disable the suspension of displays when it plays back? I can see no option for this. Also, why are the aforementioned options apparently ignored?

Cheers.

I'm going to close this question and reformulate it in a more general way.

Hi John,

I'm actually running amd64 on the system where I'm seeing this bug, but I figured that this would be architecture-independent anyway.
