how to play on second machine same media as primary

I'm looking to have the same movie or music play on 2 machines (desktop and lappy both running 11.10) at once, in sync with each other and in decent quality

thanks in advance for your help/time, sorry if this is resolved elsewhere

ive been playing with x11vnc and its client, but the speed/quality doesnt seem to be there, its even slower than teamviewer, any other options?

You could try VLC software. This one can be used as a server and a client over a local network.
I never used it, but it's described in many magazines.
