How do I change my default Movie Player from Totem to VLC
I'd like to change my default Movie Player to VLC in Ubuntu but not sure how to do it. I'm a Linux newby (installed Ubuntu in it's own partition just last night) and I'm loving it. Have no problems running scripts or using Terminal but on a learning curve, naturally. How would I do this?

hi , In Nautilus, right click on the file and choose Properties from the menu that appears. The Properties dialog opens.
then Click on the "Open With" tab. A list of applications appears.
Select the default application you want for the file type. If the application is not on the list, use the Add button to add the application to the list.
Check firts where vlc is located, i assume that u have it un /usr/bin/vlc
Hope this works 4 U

Hello GAIRALDI,
I tried your advice above on a DVD but the "Open with" tab does not appear when right-clicking the DVD icon with a disk in the drive, nor does it appear when clicking on Places, Computer and right-clicking on the DVD drive.
I also tried opening a disk, browsing to the .VOB files and attributing MPlayer to these without expected results.
I'm assuming there is a "auto-run" preference somewhere that has to be changed...?
TIA,
Dan
