Vlc graphics malfunctioning

Asked by brian collins

Hi everyone!
I use VLC on my Xubuntu 10.04 desktop and laptop. But now the desktop VLC doesn't reproduce videos correctly. Instead of a normal picture, I get a vague picture but compsed of letters and numbers! I imagine this is a defect.

How can I remediate?

Thanks in advance! (I'll check back later-- in about 12 hours)

Brian

Reassigning to a more appropriate project.

BTW, this sounds like it's using the aalib driver, which is designed to represent video as text. It's actually a feature, not a bug, but VLC shouldn't be using that driver by default. You can probably change it in the settings somewhere, or by removing ~/.vlc/vlcrc .

Thanks Selene!
I'll see if I made a modification somewhere in the settings.. that's probably the culprit, since I was fiddling around there a while back..

If not, I should use this command: ~/.vlc/vlcrc -correct?

Thanks!

Thanks again, Selene,
Seems to work fine now; I clicked on "reset original settings" and now the video has returned to normal. I guess I had changed something somewhere that I shouldn't have!

Thanks!
