Is there a way I can set up my DVD player to run on any computer on the network?

Asked by Jeb E.

Is there a way I can get the internal DVD player on our Ubuntu desktop computer to run on any other computer in the house so say, I can watch a DVD while being on my netbook?

basically, I am saying: Is there a way I can share my DVD player through the network?

You could play the dvd with vlc and set it up as a stream then connect to the stream from the client

VLC's how-to offers some advice. Basically you set up the computer with the DVD to play it back, and then others can "tune-in" to what is being played back by the other machine. This works for anything that VLC can play.
