cannot run VLC movie player in PCLINUXOS kde desktop

I've tried to load it via Synaptic and >sudo apt-get install vlc and I get the VLC icon in the video folder (so installed?) but when I try to open it it just flashes for abit in the 'task bar' at the bottom of the screen and then disappears. It will probably be easier to reinstall Linux OS onto the HDD a I also cannot install OpenOffice.

Your OS isn't supported here. This is the UBUNTU forum, not PCLinuxOS.
