VLC is reckoned to be the most versatile player.

Have you installed libdvdcss2 from the Medibuntu Repository? (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu)

I installed vlc, and it shows the intro FBI banner if I select the file on the dvd.. which tells me the dvd is working, and I just need to get it set up??

rather new to kubuntu, so installing libdvdcss2 is still in the "figure it out" stages..

Go to the link. Scroll down to "Playing Encrypted DVDs". Choose the grey box that is appropriate - 32-bit, 64-bit or PowerPC.

Connect to the Internet. Open a Terminal. Copy and Paste the contents of one box into the Terminal.

CAUTION! There are 2 lines, although they might look like 3! Treat them as 2 lines beginning "wget" and "sudo"

Tip: You do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the web page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press your mouse wheel or mouse middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
