VLC Media Player "No v4l2 instance found"
Hello,
While using VLC Media Player, I decided to view the "extended settings," to see what adjustments were possible and when I clicked on the "v4l2 controls" tab, the tab displayed the following message:
"No v4l2 instance found. Press the refresh button to try again."
I pressed the suggested button and nothing changed. I then installed every entry dealing with "Video for Linux" in Synaptic, rebooted and tried again. Still no change.
I then Googled to try to find a source tarball, but durring this process I read several posts that suggested that v4l2 is already part or Linux kernels 2.6+.
Is this true? If so, why does VLC report that there is no v4l2 instance found. If not, what do I have to do to get v4l2 installed?
Thanks, Hannibal

**Providing additional information:
When launching "gnome-
"Video4Linux Control Panel," I receive the following error message:
"Unable to open file /dev/video0

I also get the following error messages in Terminal when launching

Does anyone know what this means or what I should do about it?
Thanks, Hannibal
