Looking for assistance installing windows xp pro

Asked by Thomas Beck

Hello there
I've been trying to install windows xp pro on my Ubuntu 12.04 machine so that I can dual boot.

Really this is because I'm terrible with Linux and windows is point and click for pretty colours. I've been trying to use an iso image with unetbootin, with no luck. I've got no way of getting any blank cd's any time soon, and no-one I know has a cd drive in their machines, so it seems to me my only option is to install off a usb stick. I know that my usb is bootable, and my computer can boot from it because I've done it before with this exact usb.

So far I've managed to use unetbootin to put the files and bootloader onto my usb, but when I came to boot from it I was given a unetbootin screen with the only option being "default." selecting that does nothing, and waiting for the 10 second timer to expire does nothing but reset the boot menu. I unplugged the usb, and got back into Ubuntu fine, so I tried again but to no avail.

Without using a cd, is there any way for me to put windows on this computer?

Any help is much appreciated (:

If you use dd to make and ISO of your Windows install media, you can mount it in virtualbox as the CD drive and install in virtualbox.

Can you help with this problem?
