No sound in XP guest

Asked by Bryan Mitchell

Re: Virtualbox, audio crackles after jump to intrepid or jaunty.
Lots of people on forums, including me, report the problem with audio when running XP as guest on Ubuntu 9.04. It cannot be a hardware problem because all our hardware will be different. My machine is brand new. My voice input also crackles and XP will not play CDs nor CD files copied to the hard drive. Yet it plays it own sounds perfectly including Media Player sample files.
Has anyone found a solution please?

Have you installed the guest additions?

Have you editted the sound settings of the virtualbox to try the different settings there

It will be something like this:
http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/~dangthan/virtualbox.bmp

But will show Linux devices rather than directx which is windows based. You will need the box shutdown to change these

Trying to listen to audio CD in an XP SP3 Guest with an Ubuntu 9.04 host, I landed in this forum and this is my first message.

Having the same problems with interenal CD, I had immediate success with external USB cd drive. Without mounting it from Virtualbox!!. The USB self detection of XP was enough.

Can you help with this problem?
