VirtualBox looses sound after restoring host from suspend/hibernate

Asked by Hermes (PL)

This affects current Jaunty (version Beta with updates).

If system gets suspended with running virtual machine, the machine looses its ability to utilize audio, as well as it is not possible to save its state or revert back to a snapshot without killing its process as it gets stuck in the middle.

I suppose it is all related with audio, as on the same system if there is Firefox open with some Flash Player multimedia, that media cannot be played any more until Firefox is restarted.

try restarting HAL on the host and guest (if possible). If the guest is windows based, try removing the sound card from device manager then rescanning for hardware chages. This may help.

Suspend is a big PITA. One other option is to close the VBox guest but save its state. It will load up as it was when you close the vbox window. This is a good work around for the perils of hibernate.

Can you help with this problem?
