When will VirtualBox OSE 2.0.4 be available for hardy heron?

Asked by Imran M Yousuf

I need to install VirtualBox OSE 2.0.4 in Ubuntu Hardy Heron Server edition and currently have to do it by building source code. I noticed that its available for Interpid Ibex, I wanted to know when will be available for Hardy so that I can install it in our production servers. I would be grateful if I was provided with a timeline.

Thank you,

Imran

virtualbox-ose 2.0.4 will not make it into Hardy´s standard repositories - you might see it in the backports.

Please read this community document to gain an understanding of backports.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

Unfortunately, I don´t think anybody can provide you with a timeline. Here is the backport request for 1.6.2

Hope this helps

I imagine this will make it into 8.10 repos.

@Wyatt Thanks, backports seems interesting

@Micheal - Thanks to you as well, I have noticed thet Interpid Ibex includes it, thus I was wondering whether it would be available for installation in Hardy as well, I would really appreciate that its available on hardy (and I am sure many others users will be glad as well :)), as we have production servers running on Hardy that requires LTS and VBox 2.0.4 :).

Although it will not make it into the repositories for sometime, if ever. There are other options available instead of compiling from source. There are precompiled deb packages for hardy and a .run file which will install 2.0.4

Unfortunately this is not for the open source version. So before installing please read the licensing agreement to determine if you will be in compliance.

Please read this carefully most people quality to use this under the personal use license.
“Personal Use” requires that you use the product on the same Host Computer where you installed it yourself and that no more than one client connect to that Host Computer at a time for the purpose of displaying Guest Computers remotely.

Hope this helps
