Updating VirtualBox without uninstalling

Can VirtualBox be updated to the newest version without first uninstalling 4.0.12 r72916?

I have done a lot of work setting this up and would rather not have to start over.

Uninstalling the app doesn't remove the configs or virtualboxes you have made, it only removes the app.

You can add the virtualbox PPA and get virtualbox 4.1 (not opensource but has raw USB accessing abilities)

If your VMs are important, I suggest you back them up
