How do I make the ubuntu display larger, I am currently using Oracle VM Virtualbox and the screen for ubuntu is fairly small.

Asked by cj

Currently I am using Oracle VM Virtualbox so I can use Ubuntu as a virtual machine. The screen size is fairly small and I have tried to change the settings but it doesn't let me. Basically the application that I am using is bigger than the ubuntu display size so it's cutting off the bottom portion.

Thanks,

C.J

you need to install and mount additional guest settings from the menu, you should then be able make ubuntu full screen

consaw described the manual way to install the required kernel modules.
You can also do that automatically by installing the package virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms.

There are many ways to install packages. Two possibilities:
a) Open the Software Center, enter the name in the search bar, click "install" next to package in the list.
b) Open the Terminal, enter "sudo apt-get install package_name".

More details cam be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/ubuntu-help/addremove.html

Installing the software works the same on both versions.
If the addons are properly installed and the guest machine is restarted you can just adjust the size of the window like every other window: maximize, drag the frame, use full screen from the menu.

I restarted ubuntu and it still won't let me maximize. However if I click monitors it says VBX instead of Unknown now.
