Running the TVU Player Under a Ubuntu Distribution

Asked by thewizard

Well sports fan, this is what I have done to get the elusive TVU Player to run under a Ubuntu distribution. I have tried using wine with limited success and even had it working for awhile on an older version of wine and release 9* of Ubuntu. Then one day it just would not work again. As my story goes the only way I have successfully got it working is as follows:

1. Using software manager install VirtualBox.
2. Before setting it up, download the PDF user manual and read through it to familize oneself with the program.
3. Set up VirtualBox using the wizard and assign the required disk space one will need. I used 20 GB of free space that I had on my drive.
4. Install the MS Windows operating system of your choice. (I used Windows XP) You will need the original CD and product key. This means one needs a legal version of the software.
5. Next install Windows Media Player 11. Note: When you download the software one will be using, make sure one uses the RUN option to download and install (One will see two pop up windows during the download process). For some reason that I have not figured out totally, I could not get any of the EXE programs to install due to a write error in the temp directory. It seems that I did not have permission to write to the drive.
6. I then upgraded Windows Internet Explorer to version 8.
7. I downloaded the TVU Player from the TVU Networks website (http://www.tvunetworks.com)
8. Once installed it worked perfectly.

Note: One does not have to install the player. One can access all the stations from the website. But will need a Adobe plug in installed in your browser.

For all of you who wants to watch Internet TV from ones computer under a Linux distribution this is the only way I got it to work. By the way all software mention are freebies except the Windows Operating System.
