ubuntu 10.04 no sound when i run virtualbox

Asked by Zack666

Ok, so i run on Ubuntu 10.04, and i decided to install virtualbox, so i can test othe OS like fedora windows etc. Everything works great, i even installed win7 but, as soon i start virtualbox, the host os (ubuntu) remains without sound. wierd thing is , that the guest os (in this case win7) has sound. The problem persist even if i close the virtualbox, to have sound again, i have to restart the pc wich is kinda annoying. any ideas are welcome. Tnx!!!

Using the instructions at http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#settings-audio, try changing the setting for the host audio driver. The three possibilities for that are oss, alsa, and pulseaudio. If it's not set to pulseaudio, try setting it to that first. Do this just after loading VirtualBox, while no virtual machines are running. If that doesn't fix it by itself, try rebooting. If the problem still isn't fixed, please post again.
