Mouse/Keyboard Capture key failure

Asked by Claude

Having installed Win7 as a virtual machine successfully, updated it and installing Norton AntiVirus, w/o any difficulties, I am surprised that after "capturing" the mouse/keyboard on the virtual machine, tapping the "control" key which is displayed in the bottom right corner as "host" key. The mouse overs clearly spell out function. green down arrow when guest OS has control, & Black down arrow when host OS has control. Yet when in guest OS, pressing control key at best, or really at worst, simply loses control of mouse, and powering off is only option. By closing guest OS down, green down arrow turns black. Optimally I would like to be able to switch back and forth from Ubuntu to Win7 and back with this toggle key. Perhaps I've missed a configuration step. Help appreciated.

Try restarting the X server instead of powering off. I also find pressing CTRL+ALTT+DEL then clicking cancel makes mouse pointers appear. Can you give the output of:

uname -a; lsb_release -a; dpkg -l | grep -i virtual; sudo lshw -C display

Thanks

Thanks for reply.
I have no idea how to restart the X server. Sorry, however the requested output is as follows, & I hope that helps. Will try Ctrl-Alt-Del, but unless my memory fails, I don't recall anything coming up, forcing me to power down. After power request, a window does appear which offers options besides shut down. Will repeat sequence and try to finds a cancel option.

One problem solved, by one of your ingenious wizards who noted somewhere, (I cannot find it again) that if mouse config in host system, is set to have control key locate mouse pointer, the key cannot perform any other function. By deselecting that feature in Ubuntu, the right control key released the mouse pointer in guest Win7!!!!!! Bravo I wish I could find that posting again to thank the appropriate genius.
