Trying to run Windows 7 64bit in Virtualbox.
Hello,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer Aspire 5536G laptop. I'm trying to make a Windows 7 virtual machine in Virtualbox. But I always get the error of:
Status: 0xc000035a
Info: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this cpu is not compatible with 64-bit mode.
I'm running a 32bit Ubuntu and trying to run a 64bit Windows 7 in my virtual machine, can anyone help me?

Quigles,
Your CPU must support Virtualization in order to run a 64bit OS in VirtualBox.
To test if your CPU supports virtualization from a terminal run "grep --color vmx /proc/cpuinfo" if you have an Intel CPU (for AMD use "grep --color svm /proc/cpuinfo"), if nothing is returned in the results then you don't have Virtualization support [or it is disabled in your BIOS, verify that it is turned on in BIOS if it fails].
Best of luck,
George

George, I used "grep --color svm /proc/cpuinfo"
and I received this message

Can you tell me what it means?

Your CPU may not support 64bit guest OSes. Check your CPU can do it or not. Soundsd like not. You may have to enable it in BIOS

actionparsnip,
I just checked my bios and it sadly didn't have a option to enable it, if I changed my computer to Ubuntu 64bit, would it work?

Quigles,
The cpuinfo does have "svm" therefore your CPU should be able to do virtualization!
Open the VirtualBox program and right click on the VM (Windows 7) listed on the left side and select Settings. Select "System" on the left side of the settings window, then the "Processor" tab and verify that "Enable PAE/NX" is checked.
Good luck,
George
Check it is enabled in BIOS. If the CPU can handle 64bit guests then it will aloow them, otherwise it will not. Do you NEED 64bit guests? What tasks are they performing? etc
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask Quigles for more information if necessary.
