This doesn't actually look like a bug report, rather more of a support question. Subsequently, I am converting this to a question in our support tracker. Thanks!

Unfortunately, like me, you found out the hard way that gparted is not that reliable in resizing ntfs partitions. The easiest way would be using a Data recovery app. I don't of any in linux but there is Get data back for windows, then you need a working windows to run that app.

In any case don't use that disk as you will be risking your data to be lost for good

I too have a similar problem. I made four partitions, two using FAT32 systems hoping windows xp will remain there. But I have got only Ubuntu and no idea where windows XP is. I can see on my desktop only sda1 and sda2, of the four partitions. Based on sudo commands I got the following information:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# /dev/sda3
UUID=30a66c36-4106-48a7-9b3f-bbf7971f4e24 / reiserfs notail 0 1
# /dev/sda1
UUID=2833-F484 /media/sda1 vfat defaults,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
# /dev/sda2
UUID=8CE8-0979 /media/sda2 vfat defaults,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
# /dev/sda4
UUID=d5f1d71c-9f8e-4132-804b-b1a4a7806546 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto,exec 0 0
What should I do to recover windows XP.

If necessary, I am prepared to use two partitions to reinstall windowsXP. Can I do that?

i have an idea for mb. you can use the windows xp cd to recover the grub.
step 1:Restart computer and then insert the windows xp cd,after seeing setup os interface,press "R",select "Microsoft Windows Recovery Console".
step 2:Use command "Bootcfg/scan"to scan all the "boot.ini" on your hard disk.
step 3:"Bootcfg/rebuild" select Y when a tip show.
step 4:input laoding ID for windows xp.
step 5:fastdetect. <enter>
ok!

Thks for yr suggestion. It does not work as recovery cds failed to recognise the model. Microsoft Money and MSWorks 7 also fail to get installed from original cds. Any other way?

Can you help with this problem?
