upgraded to 11.10, VNC no longer works

Asked by Haruhi

I recently upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 and I can no longer connect to the computer using VNC. This computer does not have a monitor attached. I still have access via SSH and tried various commands to start the vino-server without success. How can I regain VNC access from the commandline?

Had to connect a monitor to fix this. I shouldn't have upgraded.
Issue was due to lightdm not being able to log in until the user's Xauthority file was removed and lightdm not retaining the autologin settings from before the upgrade.
