Ubuntu 9.10 (Laptop) remote to Ubuntu 9.10 (Desktop)

Asked by Keith T

I am just trying to connect my laptop to my office computer so that I can retrieve files and other information while on the road.

I have setup my "Remote Desktop" with these settings:
Allow other users: ...view & control your desktop
Require Password
only display when connected

I am using Remote Desktop Viewer on my laptop to try and connect to the desktop....

My connection to the Internet on my laptop is via a HTC EVO 4G Wifi hotspot connection.
Then desktop computer is connected via a LAN / Router Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS using DD-WRT

any suggestions? :)

Remote desktop won't allow you to transfer files, you will need openssh-server (for secure transfer over WAN) or SAMBA for quick and easy over LAN.

Can you help with this problem?
