vim package

bacspace and arrow keys not working in vi editor

first i open terminal then i press
vi filename.l.........
vi editor will be opened...
after i type few words...
if i want to delete a letter and press backspace...
.the letter is not getting deleted...
if i press upward arrow character A comes...
for downward arrow character B comes...
for left arrow C comes ...for right arrow D comes...
so i am unable to use the backspace button and arrow keys...

Please try to install vim vim-common vim-runtime vim-tiny from terminal type:

sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install vim vim-common vim-runtime vim-tiny

marcobra thanks for ur reply........but since i am new to ubuntu i didnt understand ur solution properly.........first go to terminal then type "vim-common vim-runtime vim-tiny"
 then after this type "sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install vim vim-common vim-runtime vim-tiny"........is this what ru saying??????

try dis using ur internet connection on

in terminal window

sudo apt-get install vim
